Research Center of Ocean Environment and Technology (The center) was established under the Policy of the Department of Education to consolidate the research functions of universities in Taiwan between 2002 and 2005. The Center combines the expertise of NCKU and SYSU in Oceanic engineering, Oceanic Environment resource,Marin Biological Science and Technology,and Underwater Investigation Technology.

Programs of The Center are extended into the cooperative research with top notch international ocean research organizations, including Woods Hole, Scripps, John Hopkins University, Massashusetts Institute of Technology, Cornell University, Oregon State University, National Ocean and Atmospheric Adiministration , Tokyo University, The Ocean Resarch Institute of the Russian Academy of Science. Study projects include oceanic environment science , oceanic energy and resources, and underwater investigation, etc..

The Center will play a leading role in guiding Taiwanese universities and relevant researches toward international standards, and elevate the national research capabilites and technologies in oceanic environment, oceanic energy and resources,underwater investigation as well as marine biological production to achieve the goal of becoming a world class marine research center.
